Italian artist Pixel Pancho (born 1984 in Torino) painted this mural in Karakallio for the Upeart Festival 2019. This productive artist is known for commenting on current issues in his art, and the Karakallio piece is no exception. The artwork, titled ‘Winter is coming. Time to migrate again.’ reflects the difficult relationship between nature and humanity, and is located at the address Kalasääksentie 10.
This beautiful mural with a powerful message that’s disconsolate even, but thought-provoking, draws inspiration from Art Nouveau and utilizes a versatile color palette. The ancient myth of Leda and the Swan, which has inspired artists for centuries, has become a mural in this modern interpretation. In Pixel Pancho’s robotics-inspired artwork, Leda is nature and the swan is mankind, unabashedly abusing its power.
The artist hopes that the difficult subjects that he tackles in his art would also reach the audience finding their way to the mural. The artwork is both stylistically and thematically well suited to the Karakallio area, surrounded by woods and bursting with vitality.
Pixel Pancho has painted murals around Europe, the U.S., and Mexico. Along with painting and drawing, installations, sculpting, and industrial design are all part of the repertoire of this multi-talented artist.
